Breathwork
Coherent breathing, five in, five out.
Coherent breathing, sometimes called resonance breathing, is one of the simplest patterns there is: five counts in, five counts out, nothing held. What it asks for is not effort but time. The rhythm is even and unhurried, and it does its work by being sustained.

The pattern
- Inhale through the nose for 5 counts.
- Exhale for 5 counts, at the same unhurried pace.
One cycle · 10 counts · session runs 10 minutes
Reed's Coherence is its longest session, and the length is the point: an even rhythm, held for longer. The first minutes feel like counting; somewhere in the middle it usually stops feeling like counting.
When to reach for it
Reach for it when you have the time to settle properly rather than quickly: the middle of a heavy day, or an evening you want to land slowly. Box breathing steadies in minutes; Coherence is what steadying feels like when you give it ten.
Practising safely
Coherent breathing is one of the gentler patterns, with no holds and no forcing. Practise sitting or lying down somewhere safe, never while driving or in water, and stop if you feel dizzy or unwell. If you are pregnant, or have a heart condition, high or low blood pressure, a respiratory condition, epilepsy, or experience panic attacks, check with a doctor before you begin. Reed is for general wellbeing; it is not medical advice or treatment.
Ten minutes, guided by a single orb rising and settling at the same even pace. You mark how you feel before and after, and Reed shows you the shift.
Questions
Is coherent breathing the same as resonance breathing?
The names are used for the same idea: an even, unhurried rhythm with the inhale and exhale of equal length. Reed's session runs it at five counts each way.
Why is the session ten minutes?
Because the pattern works by being sustained. Reed's Coherence is deliberately its longest session: an even rhythm, held for longer.
Can I practise it lying down?
Yes. Sitting or lying down both work, anywhere safe. There are no holds and no forcing.
Is coherent breathing free in Reed?
Yes. Every session in Reed is free and unlimited, with no account. Reed Pro adds personal insights on top; it never locks a session.
